TEMPO Interactive, Surakarta:The Solo Potable Water Company (PDAM) director, Singgih Triwibowo, said the current PDAM's water resources can only supply 897 liters of water per second. From that amount, 387 liters per second comes from, among other sources, the Cokrotulung spring in Klaten. Meanwhile in Solo, the water comes from the Bengawan Solo water processing plant in Jurug.
The target, he said, is for the PDAM to supply 80 percent of households in Surakarta. Yet, it can only supply 58 percent of households at the moment. Therefore, the company is now preparing a number of water installations which are estimated to be able to produce 400 liters of water per second.
The installation in Semanggi is designed to produce 300 liters of water per second, while the one in Mojosongo provides 100 liters per second.
"However, we cannot yet guarantee a smooth 24-hour service," Singgih said. According to him, his department is still utilizing deep wells. More deep wells will be built in other locations. "But we are facing financial problems," Singgih said.
