The tap water utility in Padang, the West Sumatra, PDAM Padang, has suffered Rp 45 billion (US$ 4.6 million) in losses after the powerful earthquake that shook the city and other areas of West Sumatra in September.
The firm's technical director Reru L. Tanjung said on Sunday that his office had been required to give services for customers in temporary shelters since the quake.
The quake destroyed the company headquarters in Padang.
“The damage of our office costs us around Rp 5 billion. We will start constructing a new building in a safer location,” he said as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that the quake had also caused damage to water pipes and installations.
“To [help] meet customers' needs, we installed 103 public hydrants [already]. [However] we only met 50 percent of residents' needs so far,” he said. (ewd)
