JAKARTA (Jakarta Post): Vice President Jusuf Kalla has instructed ministers to revise a government regulation to speed up the development of low-cost apartments across the country.
The Vice President said Wednesday that Government Regulation No. 6/2006 on the management of state properties needed revision as it obstructed the construction of low-cost apartments.
"Vice President Jusuf Kalla highlighted that the regulation has left low-income residents unable to buy low-cost apartments," Public Housing Minister Muhammad Yusuf Asy'ari said after a meeting between several ministers and the Vice President.
He also said the government would construct 28 low-cost apartment buildings in Jakarta, Surabaya and Batam by December, which is part of plans to build at least 1,000 low-cost apartment buildings in the country.
